NATIONAL CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS – FALKIRK 23/02/2013

The National Cross Country Championships took place last weekend in Falkirk.

The day started off cold but by the time the races started at 11.30 the sun was out and it was a beautiful day. The entries for the event as a whole were up and it was great to see so many Lasswade AC athletes competing in the biggest event of the Scottish Cross Country calendar.  Lasswade were represented in most age groups the exceptions being U15 girls and U20 women.

The highlight of the day for Lasswade AC was the Men’s U20 event which was won by Ross Matheson who looked comfortably in control throughout the race before moving clear in the final stretch for victory.   Congratulations Ross!

In the under 13 boys there was a large field of 130 competitors with Magnus Tait , who has been running consistently well  over the winter, the first Lasswade AC finisher in 11th position. Our next finisher was Jamie Darling in 90th followed closely by Craig Gallagher in 91st and Josh Grahame in 95th, Ross Mackenzie was 112th with Euan Mackay 123rd and Euan McAllister our final team member in 127th.

The under 13 girls were next off with another large field of 127 runners.  Lauren Dickson just back after having missed  four weeks training with a knee injury was the first Lasswade AC girl finishing a creditable 19th, closely followed by Sarah Tait 20th, our next finisher was Caroline McKinlay in 94th and the final member of the team Lauren Wilkie in 104th.

In the under 15 boys we had two runners in the field of 112 with Cameron Steven the leading Lasswade AC athlete in 73rd and Matthew Smith 81st.

Our only under 17 woman, Amy Frankland,  had another good run to finish 10th out of the field of 49 runners.  In the under 17 men we had two runners in the field of 79 runners,  Iain Lawson who finished 43rd closely followed by Callum Clark in 47th.

The women’s race had a field of 214 runners and we had three veteran runners representing Lasswade AC with Linden Nicholson being our first finisher in 142nd place (I noticed that if there was an age group category Linden would have been first F60 and was also 2nd in F55 and 13th F50) Wilma Kerr was next in 163rd and Lorna Rice in 204th.

The final event of the day was the men’s race with the biggest field of 503 runners.  Lasswade AC had seven runners  including five veterans. Our first finisher was Barney Phillips in 50th place, next was the first of our veterans, Andrew Matheson 178th (6th Over 50), followed by John Murray in 194th,  Ben Mitchell 244th,  Scott Dickson 317th,  Phil Parr-Burman 404th and Brian Wilson our final runner in 477th.

Well done to all the athletes who competed on the day.

Congratulations Amy!

Great to see another of the Club’s young women picking up representative honours! Amy Frankland enjoyed a trip to Cardiff at the weekend as part of the Scotland Team competing in the Celtic Nations Cross Country.

It must have been a challenging weekend given the weather and the photos below suggest that overheating wouldn’t have been a problem!

East District Cross Country League (3) – Broxburn 12/01/2013

The final East District Cross Country League Match of this winter season took place at Broxburn last Saturday.

The race was once again well supported by Lasswade AC  with 45 athletes from the club competing on a crisp and cold Saturday afternoon.

Our man on the scene Callum Clark has produced a report of the day’s events for us with a selection of photographs from the races.  Please click East District League – broxburn (1) to view it.  For the full results please visit the Scottish athletics website by clicking here

Myself, Linda and Dave Hand would like to thank all athletes, parents, helpers and reporters (Callum) for their support at these league matches over the winter.  It has been fantastic to see the club so well represented at these meetings and so many athletes doing well.

The main race of the cross country season, the National Cross Country Championships,  takes place in Falkirk in just over a month.

Hope to see most of you there!

INTER DISTRICT CROSS COUNTRY – 05/01/2013

The Inter District Cross Country match took place at Holyrood Park in Edinburgh on Saturday as part of the Great Edinburgh International Cross Country Event.

There were four Lasswade AC athletes  selected for this event. Unfortunately, Ross Matheson was injured and had to withdraw, however the other three athletes all performed very well.

In the boys race, under 13 age group,  Magnus Tait ran a great race working his way through the field to finish inside the top 10 in 9th position.  Photograph below shows Magnus after his race with his sister Sarah and club team mate Susan Scobie.  Sarah and Susan both competed in the open race with Sarah proudly showing her trophy for 2nd place and Susan her finishers medal!

Lauren Dickson competing in the girls race, under 13 age group,  ran a fantastic race to finish just outside the medals in 5th position in a very close run in to the finish.

In the under 17 women,  Amy Frankland showed why she has earned selection for Scotland with another fine performance finishing 5th.

It was a fantastic day of athletics and great to see all the Lasswade AC athletes doing so well.

Well done to you all!

East District Cross Country League – Broxburn 12/01/2013

We hope that everyone had an enjoyable time over the Christmas period with their families and friends.

The New Year is almost upon us and we would like to thank everyone for their support in 2012 and wish you all the very best for 2013!

The final East District Cross Country League match takes place in just under two weeks on 12/01/2013.  We have had great support from athletes and parents for the first two matches that took place in Stirling and Livingston.  Lasswade AC are doing well and are well placed in a number of age groups, however in order to maintain or improve our position we need your support at this final league match.

It would be fantastic to see as many Lasswade AC athletes taking part as were at Livingston so please make every effort to compete at this event.
