The National Track Relays take place on Sunday 22nd June in Dundee.
Anyone interested in competing should email chair@lasswade-ac.org.uk by the 9th June so we can determine if we have sufficient numbers to make up teams. More details of the available relay races can be found here. Please indicate which events you would be willing to take part in.
Note that 4×100 relays are for Under 15s and above. Under 13s are restricted to a medley relay which is 600m/200m/600m/200m.
?There are a limited number of team places available so the sooner people get in touch we can try and ensure that are entries are submitted before the places are taken up.
As part of National Volunteers’ Week, from June 2nd to the 8th Lasswade AC want to thank each and every one of our brilliant team of amazing volunteers who give up their time to MAKE IT HAPPEN.
To each, and every one, of our brilliant volunteers, whether it’s our coaches, officials, committee, admin, publicity, social media………. we are extremely grateful and want to say THANK YOU!
When members attend training this week we invite them to thank their coach or any other volunteer personally, this can be by handshake, fist bump or simply saying thanks.
Why not take a look at some of the great backstories from our amazing volunteers which you can view here. (It’s interesting to note how many had no athletics background when they started their journey!)
We would love to recruit more volunteers. So, to see what is involved, how you will be supported, where we need your help and who to contact please see here
We’re starting to collate interest for our next two competitions in June…
Scottish National Athletics League – Sunday 8th June at Grangemouth. This is for all athletes from Under 17 to Seniors/Masters and athletes are limited to doing 2 events on the track (plus field events). Please check the timetable for the available events and sign up here by 29th May.
Forth Valley League on Sunday 15th June AM at Grangemouth. This is for athletes in the U11 to U15 age groups. Sign up here by 5th June.
There was lots of action up and down the country at the weekend with Lasswade athletes taking part in the London Marathon, the opening fixture of the Forth Valley League for young athletes, the 4J Studios Scottish Athletics National Outdoor Open and the Scottish Athletics Junior Hill Running League.
Alec Miller was the sole Lasswade athlete at Linwood for the National Outdoor Open. His 1.91m in the high jump was good enough for 2nd place and was also a new PB.
In the London Marathon, Amy Frankland, winner of our VMH Solicitors Lasswade 10 Mile Road Race in March clocked a fantastic time of 2:55:37. Gareth Fleming was our other representative in London and completed the course in 3:25:58.
We also had two young athletes representing Scotland in the London Mini-Marathon races. Freya was 1st Scottish girl home (11th overall) and Cerys 4th Scot (23rd overall) and helped Scotland win the team bronze.
Francis and Rowan took part in the 2nd fixture of the Scottish Junior Hill Running League at Lomonds of Fife. Francis, having won the 1st fixture in the under 15s age group, finished first again. Rowan made it a double for Lasswade by winning the under 20s age race.
To round of a great weekend for Lasswade, our young athletes took first place in the first match on the Forth Valley League Division 2 competition.
1st: Lasswade – 504.5 2nd: Falkirk Victoria Harriers – 470.5 3rd: Cumbernauld- 463.5 4th: Central – 461.5 5th: Harmeny B – 338 6th: Haddington – 258

This year’s heat of the SUPERteams will take place on Saturday, May 24th at Meadowbank Stadium.
What is SUPERteams?
SUPERteams is a competition open to athletes born in 2014, 2015 or 2016. It’s a great event to get started in athletics competitions. All athletes will take part in the 75m, Standing Long Jump and Turbo Javelin events. All results are converted into points to decide the overall winner and team placings. Teams are comprised of 2 boys and 2 girls – last year we were only able to form 1 complete team due to the small number of boys who had entered so it would be good to get more boys signing up for this competition so that we can have more teams completed.
Our solitary team finished 4th in the heat at Saughton last year and qualified for the grand final where they finished 13th out of 35 teams.
Last Sunday saw Lasswade’s U17, U20s and Seniors compete in the Scottish National Athletics League – our first official participation in the league since it started a couple of seasons back. The competition format is similar to an open-graded competition with athletes drawn against other athletes of similar abilities in the track races.
There was a strong blustery headwind on the home-straight which meant the sprinters had difficulty matching the times from the previous week’s competition at Linwood in the glorious Spring sunshine. Still, it was good to see some Lasswade athletes take up the opportunity to compete – it’s still early in the season and hopefully more U17 athletes and above will sign-up for the other matches this season.
Match 2 takes place on Sunday 18th May at Aberdeen Sports Village. Anyone interested should complete the sign-up form by Monday 5th May and also be aware that as per the league requirements, each club will need to provide 3 officials/helpers so parents may be asked to assist.
Our friends at Edinburgh Athletics Club have kindly offered us spaces on their coach which will leave Meadowbank at 7 am with a pick up at 7.20 at Lidl on Glasgow Road. Any athletes, coaches or spectators are welcome to travel on the coach at no cost but a token contribution is welcome. If you are interested in getting a space on the coach, please add this to the comments section of the sign-up form. Spaces will be limited so if you are interested, sign-up soon.
Last Sunday saw the first outdoor track competition of the season for Lasswade’s athletes. Although quite an early start to the track season, the weather was perfect for racing and Linwood’s new track looked great too. Team Lasswade delivered a series of fantastic performances, giving a glimpse of an exciting season ahead. Although the turn-out wasn’t as big as we had hoped (29 athletes), the team bagged 21 first places across the A and B events.
Provisionally, Lasswade finished the day in 2nd place overall with Harmeny’s team of 46 athletes taking the honours. Whilst we were certainly outnumbered, we definitely weren’t out classed. Hopefully we will have a stronger turn-out for the next competition on Sunday, 1st June at Grangemouth will close the gap. Please sign-up here to be part of the team.
There’s also still time for our Under 11 to Under 15 athletes to sign-up for the Forth Valley League competition at Livingston on Sunday 27th April (Afternoon Match). There have only been a few declarations of interest so far, so please support the team and sign-up to compete! The league has been restructured and now consists of 3 divisions, with Lasswade now competing in Division 2.
