East District Cross Country League Match 2 – Livingston 20/11/2011

The second match of the East District Cross Country League took place last weekend in Livingston and there were 25 Lasswade athletes competing. It was great to see so many young athletes from Lasswade taking part in this event.

In the boys under 11 age group there were five boys taking part with Josh Grahame leading the way with a strong run to finish 5th overall. The rest of the team were led home by Fraser Judge 13th, Craig Gallagher 34th, Euan McAllister 35th and Adam McDonald 39th. Demi Cherubini the only Lasswade girl in the under 11 age group ran well to finish 26th in only her third cross country race.

In the under 13 boys race Cameron Steven was our first finisher in 17th place closely followed by Matthew Smith in 19th, Ross MacKenzie was our next finisher in 36th with Jamie Darling just behind in 37th.  Lauren Dickson was the first Lasswade girl in the U13 age group running a strong race to finish in 9th place with team mate Nancy Stewart finishing 39th.

The next race was the under 15 boys with Jamie Cousin running well to finish 8th overall, team mate Iain Lawson was not too far  behind in 12th and Kyle MacKenzie finished completing the team finished in 30th place.

The under 15 girls and under 17 women run in the same race and Lasswade had five runners. Amy Frankland ran very well to finish 4th, Amy Smith was next Lasswade runner in 24th, followed by Sophie Miller 31st, Fiona Matheson 33rd and Katie Logan 39th.

Calum Clarke was a solo performer in the U17 men finishing 26th in his first race for sometime after having been injured.

Following  her recent victory in the Lasswade Open Cross Country Keira Murray, the only Lasswade woman competing,  put in another fine performance with a convincing win over Gillian Palmer.

The final event of the day was the mens race and we had three athletes running. Martin Gore led the men home in 52nd, with Richard Connor and Ben Mitchell close behind in 56th and 61st respectively.

Well done to and thanks to everyone who took part.

The final league match takes place on 14 January at Broxburn and some of the age groups still have the opportunity to finish in the top three teams in the league. However, to do this we really need our endurance athletes to take part so please put this date in your diary and make every effort to compete.
